Phlippines, here we come!

So, we're going to Majayjay, Philippines! Yep, you read that right! Our first missions trip together ... we are so excited! The trip is fully paid for, so all we are sending out is support letters for is our supplies right now (approprate attire for the jungle, backpacking gear, passports, ect). I can't believe we're really going! It will be an 18 hour flight, and we'll work with the local bible school to train them in children's ministry, as well as do street outreach and lead bible studies! I've borrowed every book from our local library on the Philippines.... yeah that was a disappointment. So Oliver and I are going over to the U of I library this weekend to try and find stuff published AFTER 1960.
We also wanted to be REALLY on the ball and learn some Filipino. Our town's library had NOTHING on the language, so we've been scouring the internet. Our favorite language software, Rosetta Stone, has NOTHING on the Filipino language. "Hmm.. odd..." we thought, and started to peruse wikipedia pages. Then is ALL started to make sense. Apparently, the first ever Filipino language dictionary just came out, and its full of typos. Why the long time in publishing such a common book? Well, dialect plays a BIG part in it all. See below... try not to laugh TOO hard. Oliver almost stopped breathing as we made up sentences :)Legend: Ilocano (ILO), Kapampangan (PMP), Tagalog (TGL),Cebuano (CEB),Ilonggo (HIL), Waray-Waray (WRY), Pangasinense (PANG).

Maybe you had a hard time finding "Filipino" language software because everyone speaks Tagalog.
