A bittersweet ending ...

Oliver and I spent this past weekend traveling the great state of Ohio. Our first stop was Cincinnati to see my 95 year old great-grandma Zella and her 2nd husband (of 30 some years) Al. My deceased great-uncle's dog, Max, and my great-aunt Doris were there to welcome us too. We had some of great-grandma's famous cake, chatted it up, and called it a night. The next morning it was a home-cooked breakfast and catching up before we hit the road again ...
Soon it was off to Toledo. Sadly, we learned on the way that the family had all been in town the previous weekend, including Oliver's siblings, and no one had called us to let us know. We were very disappointed. But it did give us some distraction free time with Oliver's grandparents, Uncle Jack, Aunt Julie and their entire family. We had time to reconnect, eat a HUGE delicious spaghetti dinner with everyone, join in on movie time, get zapped senseless by a fake stapler and laugh, A LOT. IT was wonderful!
It also happened to be Grandma Mary's birthday on Friday. [Thanks to Julie for the reminder!] I was able to pull out my jewelry-making boxes and make her a very special bracelet. I'd been toying with the idea for some time, and was glad to see it in real life! It has all of her grandchildren's birthstones evenly distributed along a chain representing their family (Jeff's kids, Jack's kids, etc). If the grandchild is married, they share a spot with the birthstone of their spouse.
After Sunday breakfast with Jack's family and lunch with Grandma and Grandpa MacDonald, we headed home. As we neared the Illinois state line I began to feel REALLY sick. I was pretty sick by the time we were home and was up most of the night VERY sick. Bummer...
Back to my sprite, saltines and trashy TV. <"3 )~
